At the time, the company was called Traf-O-Data and it offered a basic computer which tracked and then analyzed automobile traffic data. In April 1975, Microsoft was established with Gates as the CEO. As a result of MS-DOS and its wide selection of software, Microsoft quickly became the leading PC operating systems vendor.

From 1984 onwards, Microsoft started releasing a variety of products including Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office with a variety of applications such as Excel and Word, Windows 95, Windows Vista and much more. In 2012, Microsoft released ‘Surface,’ which was the first computer in the companys history to have its hardware made by the company itself. A year later, the company purchased Nokia’s mobile unit for $7 billion. In the first quarter of 2015, Microsoft sold 33 million cellphone units, making it the 3 rd largest maker of mobile phones worldwide.
